What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?
BMI or body mass index is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms over your height in meters squared. Therefore your going to get a number with the units of kilograms per meter squared. I want to take a step back a little bit and say if you’re muscular of you have a elevated muscle mass and you calculate your BMI, it’s going to in-accurately tell you that you have more fat or adiposity than you actually do.
Now having said that if you don’t have a particularly elevated muscle mass then go ahead and calculate your BMI and see which one of these calculations you fall into. You can either be underweight, normal weight, overweight and then there are three calculations of obesity. Starting with class one, class two and then class three, which is also known as severe, extreme, or massive obesity.
